Parks close while public employee pensions remain. Shame on you Jerry Brown!

Jerry gives the prison guards a sweet deal for their votes and then does this to us. Guess the park vote isn't part of the Democrat's base. Shame on my government.

every 100,000 people apply to a prison guard. Basic supply and demand tells you we could be paying them a LOT less and still have plenty of people willing to take the job. Thats how private businesses decide how much to pay people. Corrupt public unions are killing this State

That's sad, and what's even sadder is that people in CA had a chance to keep these parks open, but chose not to. $18 fee per vehicle to keep them open? That's it? It's sad that so many people didn't seem to care. I'm curious how much tourism will go down since a lot of people out of state go to the beautiful CA state parks.

Penny wise, pound foolish. Parks will be vandalized, overrun by squatters, trashed, defaced, and become attractive for illegal farming operations. Every penny saved on paying a ranger or maintenance worker will be multiplied by ten in fire fighting and crime eradication costs. The short-term answer is increase use fees to cover the cost of keeping parks open. If Castle Rock were to actually ask all those people who park along Skyline to pay $10 admission, wouldn't that be fair?

This is pretty sad. It's going to cost even more when/if these parks re-open and you're going to invite all kinds of unsavory character like marijuana growers on these pristine land.

no wonder the country is overweight.....outdoor activities is the last thing on our mind.

The State already has enough of our money, they need to learn to stop spending more and more and more of it. The prison guard unions and teacher unions and all the 'state commissions' who meet once a month - that's where they need to make cuts.

Okay if the parks are closed officially, the land is still there, no? What will that stop people from going, nothing bolt cutters cant fix. Besides, think of all the new to be fields rife with cannabis, as we know thats what the outliers of sate parks are used for now whole parks!

How soon before closed parklands get sold to (mostly out-of-state) developers to build even more unaffordable housing for unemployed people?

What if...I sponsored an $18-holdout - tho I have no car, don't drive & never visit a state park. I just want to get a thank-you note from a cheap $18-holdout to frame, put on my blog. Must be signed & real.

You can not have what you are not willing to pay for. That includes your home, nice roads, police and fire protection AND state park's....

Can we take our dog now on a walk with us or will we still get a ticket.I like the Morro Strand but miss taking My best friend.

if parks r closed do they just put locks on the gates no one can walk the trails and there not kept up?
