If people would rise up and demand the state be fiscally responsible, stop pandering to illegals and unions, close redundant departments, lay off useless workers and streamline departments, quit building $500 million schools and stop writing six-figure pension checks, there'd be enough money for parks, libraries AND universities.

So where will the money come from? It has to be taken from something else in the budget. Maybe the illegal immigrants who now qualify for in-state tuition to state universities? That costs real taxpayer money. You want parks or illegal immigrant tuition? FOr once, as it always should have been, you have to choose. The legislature needs to stop writing unlimited checks to draw on limited taxpayer accounts. The reeling middle class cannot fund it all.

What? The Murky News gladly supports misguided politicians banning us from even deciding to get plastic bags at the store, but yet unlimited access to every public park is somehow a fundamental right? You guys are all screwed up, and your sense of "rights" only applies to liberal causes.
How many parks do we need to have access to? Why not sell off some of the parks to help sustain the rest? Oh, heaven forbid even the thought! Or how about making the people who use the parks pay for them?
Typical liberals. They don't mind nanny-stating our choice of bags at the grocery store, or the kind of light bulbs we use, but if anyone dares to threaten closing a park, then it is somehow against our freedoms!

If CA tax payers knew what we spend protecting endangered animals and plants they would be outraged. Beaches are routinely closed to protect certain shorebirds. We have any agencies that do basically the same things and they spend our $$$ fighting over which agency can be in control and have the most money to waste. State employees shoot hawks and feral cats to protect endangered shorebirds. Why not let nature take its own course.

They do, actually. It is just usually in the form of voting down legislation that costs a lot of money and does nothing.

I totally agree that a solution must be found to save our state parks.
